Founded 20 years ago by Kiwi Andrew Morten, TravelEssence has specialised in small-scale, personal travel to New Zealand from the start. By meeting each client face-to-face, TravelEssence gets to know exactly what they're looking for and puts together a custom-made holiday — sending well-matched guests from the Netherlands, the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Belgium who move slowly, avoid the crowds, and seek out small, unique places off the beaten path.

Typically aged 40+, they spend about three nights in each location on a self-drive holiday lasting anywhere from three to ten weeks, generally in your shoulder season.
